On Main Gallery (OMG) launched the summer festival season with “On Main Gallery Social Media Art Zones #OMGSMAZ”.

This innovative and imaginative pilot project hit the pavement and airwaves running at this years Main St. Car Free Festival, June 16th, 12-7 at 20th and Main.

The On Main Gallery Social Media Art Zone, #OMGSMAZ is a vibrant public digital space led by visionary Artistic Director and voracious artist Paul Wong and the uber cool SMAZ team Tommy Chain: Snapchatographer, Trevor Discoe: Living Online Personality, Patrick Daggitt: Code Breaker, Olivia Fauland: Professional Screenshotter, Matt Troy: Instagram Text Artist, Kenneth Yuen: Meme Historian.
Using Twitter, Instagram, GIFboom, Vine, Facebook and other networks, we will provide a platform for community-led image creation and celebration!
Bring your smartphones or tablets and get ready to make media art with your community. We will teach you all the skills and the frameworks to get you up and sharing your images online all live from Main Street. All media will be uploaded and available at twitter.com/omgsmaz and facebook.com/onmain.
Our team has assembled a range of photo opportunities and activities for your image making and viewing pleasures. There will be social media network demo workshops every half hour, interactive video booths, emoticon photo backdrops, viewing lounge, QR code games, IMG hunts, info and social interaction spaces. All colours, all ages and all recording devices welcome.
Sunday June 16th, 12-7pm, at Main St. Car Free Day!! The inaugural #OMGSMAZ was a major feature attraction and destination located at 20th + Main. We were precisely dead centre of the festival with bands, music, and Social Media Art!
All programming is free. This public art project is made possible by the City of Vancouver Community & Neighbourhood Arts Development Program.
KHATSAHLANO! MUSIC + ART FESTIVAL 2013
On Saturday, July 13 2013, On Main Gallery appeared at the Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival. Vancouver’s biggest, free outdoor music and art event curated by the Arrival Agency.
2013’s festival featured 12 stages showcasing more than 50 of Vancouver’s top musical performers plus eclectic pods of distinctive local artisans and street performers. Local merchants turn Kitsilano’s legendary West 4th Avenue into a gigantic, 10-block street fair with a wide variety of food options, bustling patios, giveaways, and special activities. 11:00am – 9:00 pm. West 4th Ave (between Burrard & MacDonald).
On Main Gallery presented #OMGSMAZ, a super-cool social media art zone, part of “This Happened Here” artist pod village in the 2600 block of West 4th Ave, (between Trafalagar St and Stephens St).
The #OMGSMAZ team were the official media artists documenting 2013’s festival. We were on hand to help you create lasting community moments and collective memories by posting “This Happened Here” images online to social media platforms.
Using Twitter, Instagram, GIFboom, Vine, Facebook and other networks, we provided the platform for community-led image creation and celebration!
