ON MAIN launches with an exhibition of  new  art works by Vancouver artist Brian Boulton, Drawing The Anonymous Subject . A Continuing Body of Work – Phase 2. Boulton will unveil 6 drawings from a current series in progress.

Phase 1 was “10 Drawings” a solo exhibition at the Or Gallery in 1999. His process combines  interests in  people watching, photography and drawing, specifically that of the  male body: “My subjects in this series are anonymous. I am drawing a subject some see as completely mundane and for some unkempt, clothes males wear, street wear. The figures of  contemporary young men in casual attire are framed moving away from our gaze. They are studied glimpses, these rendered moments are evocative and intentionally vague in suggestion”.

The images are supple, understated yet captivating. The fresh and classic drawings are rich in detail and exquisitely executed. Born in England (1955), raised and educated in BC, his studies include Architectural Drawing + Rendering, Film History and Art History.

He has collaborated and assisted numerous artists in the production of exhibitions, installation, video, music, theatre, web sites, graphics and visual staging.

ON MAIN is a new project room and re-branding for On Edge. It is a shared venue for co-production, presenting and dissemination of visual, media  and interdisciplinary art. Artistic Director: Paul Wong. On Edge (On The Cutting Edge Production Society) was established in 1985 to promote, produce and present new art and artists. On Edge is assisted by the Canada Council.
